TEHRAN, Mar. 02 (MNA) – The forests of Qara Dagh are remnants of the multimillion-year-old Hyrcanian forests that date back to the third geological period.

The diversity of wildlife in this area is so high that it is called the museum of the wildlife of Iran.

The Caspian Hyrcanian Mixed Forests ecoregion, in the world's temperate broadleaf and mixed forests biome, is a zone of lush lowland and montane forests covering about 55,000 square kilometres adjoining the shores of the Caspian Sea of Iran and part of that of Azerbaijan.
